Global Director Smart Lighting / Smart Home, TÜV Rheinland AG

Mr. Henk Veldhuis began his career in 1985 as a young engineer in Philips Electronics, the Netherlands. He has held positions in the area of product management, product marketing and business development in several of Philips BG’s (Business Groups). Since 2005, Mr. Veldhuis has been active in various international Standardization Bodies and Alliances for the consumer market, with a primary focus on using and promoting open standards, like CD-Recordable/Rewritable, Marlin DRM for audio/video content, OpenIPTVForum, and others. 

In 2011, Mr. Veldhuis joined Philips Lighting, and held the position of Director of Standardization Wireless Connectivity and Strategy. He served as Philips’ representative in the Zigbee Alliance, Philips' board member in The Connected Lighting Alliance (TCLA), as well head of the Technical working Groups in TCLA, Chair of the Steering Committee for the annual global Smart Lighting Conference, etc. 

All with the prime focus on the global marketing and evangelization of using open standards for the Smart Lighting and Smart Home market. Henk was part of the development and marketing of ZigBee Light Link and ZigBee 3.0 where he focused on interoperability within the Smart Home ecosystem. Henk was one of the original team members of Philips Hue, which is the most successful Smart Lighting systems in the consumer market.

In his international standardization & marketing roles, Mr. Veldhuis has been able to help growing the globally Smart Lighting market and harmonize the Lighting industry’ viewpoint on wireless technologies to use.

In May 2016, Mr. Veldhuis joined TÜV Rheinland Germany, and is responsible as Global Director for Smart Lighting and the Smart Home. In TÜV Henk helps to develop the global market for TÜV’ various wireless services for the Smart Home, incl. cybersecurity and privacy.
